If you live anywhere near New York state, dear readers, plan on taking a drive this weekend to the Rhinebeck Sheep & Wool Festival.
Held each year on the 3rd weekend in October on the Duchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, New York, and simply referred to as “Rhinebeck” by the hardcore, this fantastic event is something this blogger anticipates every year. There’s sheep, llama, alpaca, sheep dog trails (wow are those dogs ever smart!), scads of events, livestock sales, sheep shearing, classes/workshops, roving everywhere, yarn you won’t see anywhere else, people knitting, people crocheting, people spinning, people rug hooking, the guy that’s always there selling handmade brooms, the best chicken potpie in the world, apple crisp to die for, I could go on and on, dear readers. Are you drooling yet?
Starting in 1980, this year the festival celebrates its 30th birthday. It’s the perfect place if you’re into crafts even a tiny bit and many people go as a family. Running October 16th and 17th from 9-5 then 10-5, respectively, I cannot say enough good things about this well-organized festival. You see new things every year, the leaves are turning, there’s a bit of a chill in the air and there’s yarn EVERYWHERE! What else could you want?
If you find yourselves in the area, Fabulous Yarns both online and in their store (they are a local yarn store to the festival) features most of Be Sweet’s collection including the new Au Natural yarns. They will be showcasing a mini trunk show throughout the weekend in gorgeous natural and rust autumn colors. The Trio Shawl in the rust colorway, Sweet Shawl with Slubs in rust, the Femme Fingerless Mitts and the Spice Leaf Scarf will be featured. Stop by and say hello!
