As you know, dear readers, last week was Earth Day. Sometimes I find it silly that we set one day a year aside for this place we all live on. Shouldn’t every day be Earth Day?
Bamboo yarn is a great sustainable material. Not only does bamboo grow quickly and heartily, it makes a great yarn that’s a less expensive alternative to silk. Buy Organic states, “Bamboo fabric is softer than cotton with a texture similar to silk. It is a naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic product grown without the use of chemicals or pesticides. It is also quick to absorb moisture, therefore keeping you dry and odour free. Pure bamboo clothes can dry twice as fast as cotton clothes. Bamboo clothes can be worn all year round as they keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.”
Be Sweet carries a wonderful 100% bamboo yarn in over 70 colors, called Bamboo. If you prefer a bamboo blend, try our Bambino or Taffy. All are wonderful and lightweight-perfect for summer knitting. As an ode to Earth Day, why not knit up our sweet little Bamboo Baby Hat by Laurie Kimmelstiel? If you need a quick baby gift and don’t have time to knit one up yourself, check out the available ready-made baby and adult hats over at the Marin Store. In 6 different colorways, you’re bound to find one to suit the wearer or even get a mom and me or dad and me matching set!
